James P. Mooney
Jim Mooney is a Principal of JLM Partners, Inc. and serves as the firm's managing partner.
Mr. Mooney served from 1984 to 1993 as President and Chief Executive Officer of the National Cable & Telecommunications Association. NCTA is the national trade association of the cable television industry, providing legislative and regulatory representation to companies serving over 90 percent of cable subscribers in the United States.
As NCTA President, Mr. Mooney served as the cable industry's chief spokesman. He was the industry's principal strategist in the effort, which resulted in enactment by Congress of the Cable Deregulation Act in October of 1984. In 1986 he was the recipient of the first Cable Pioneers Award for Leadership in the cable industry, and in January 1987 he was named cable industry Executive of the Year by Cable Television Business magazine. He was a member of CableLabs' founding board and represented the U.S. cable industry both nationally and internationally during the period of its greatest expansion.
Prior to joining NCTA, Mr. Mooney served for four years as Chief of Staff to the Majority Whip of the U.S. House of Representatives. As Chief of Staff to the Whip he was responsible for organizing support among Members of the House for positions favored by the House majority leadership.
Mr. Mooney earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Rhode Island and a law degree (J.D.) from New York University.
Louise R. Mooney
Louise Mooney is a Principal of JLM Partners, Inc.
Mrs. Mooney has developed and executed communications programs for more than twenty years. She previously served as a Vice President of the National Cable & Telecommunications Association, where she headed the Industry Communications department. NCTA is the national trade association of the cable television industry,representing both cable programming and operating companies. At NCTA, she was responsible for developing and implementing industry wide public relations programs including the first PR training program for cable system managers, national polling to track consumer attitudes toward cable, and the first state wide cable system community relations programs.
In 2000 Mrs. Mooney led JLM's launch of Amazon's wireless initiative. Since that time she has been the firm's lead principal in serving JLM's clients engaged in the wireless and broadband sectors.
Upon her departure from NCTA, Mrs. Mooney was retained by the founding Board of Directors of Cable in the Classroom to create, staff and launch the organization. Cable in the Classroom is a special initiative begun in 1989 by the cable industry to provide public and private schools in the United States with free access to educational television programs and currently reaches 78% of the K-12 students in the U.S.
Prior to joining NCTA, Mrs. Mooney founded and ran Rauscher & Associates, a public relations firm in Los Angeles, which played a major role in the introduction of the cable industry to business, consumer and trade press. Her clients included cable operators, the Western Cable Show and Kagan & Associates. Rauscher & Associates launched and represented MTV for over 5 years. Mrs. Mooney also founded the cable program networks' Television Critic's Tour, which presents cable programming networks to newspaper television writers from around the country during their bi-annual media tour.
In 1985, Women in Cable, the national professional association of women in the cable industry, awarded her its Accolade of the Year. In 2006, she received the “Rainmaker” Award from the Cable and Telecom Association for Marketing (CTAM) for her industry leadership.
Ms. Mooney holds a bachelor's degree in Political Science and Communications from the University of Puget Sound in Washington.
Jeremy H. Pemble
Jeremy Pemble is Senior Vice President at JLM Partners, Inc.
Mr. Pemble previously served as Vice President of Public Relations for AT&T Wireless' (NYSE: AWE) advanced services division (Mobile Multimedia Services) overseeing all communications efforts for the company's wireless data initiatives. Some of his major PR activities included: the company's launch of new data networks; picture and video messaging; voice recognition services; ringtones & graphics; mobile gaming; mobile television; location-based services; mobile portal content (mMode); wireless email; enterprise wireless data applications; and strategic relationships with AOL, Disney, DaimlerChrysler, IBM, Intel, Microsoft, NTT DoCoMo, Yahoo and many others.
Mr. Pemble also created and managed all of the company's public relations efforts for the hit show, "American Idol," which is widely credited as the seminal event that popularized text messaging in the United States.
Immediately prior to joining JLM, he served as Vice President of Corporate Communications for RealNetworks (Nasdaq: RNWK). As Vice President, he led the company's worldwide communications strategy for all public relations activities including corporate, broadband, mobile, music and games. During his tenure at Real, he managed the communications for company earnings; the $760 million settlement and partnership with Microsoft; the introduction of the new Rhapsody digital music service; the company's expansion into mobile services with Cingular, O2, and Sprint; the acquisition of a wireless games company; and consumer-centric PR events such as free public concerts featuring multi-platinum recording artists Good Charlotte and the Foo Fighters.
Prior to his national role at AT&T Wireless, he was responsible for leading the local public relations activities of AT&T Wireless in the Midwest. Before joining AT&T Wireless, he managed the government and industry relations program for Siemens Wireless Terminals. He began his career in Dallas, Texas with Nortel Wireless Networks serving in a variety of marketing communications positions. He also served as a Public Affairs Officer in the United States Coast Guard Reserve where he gained invaluable experience in crisis communications.
Mr. Pemble earned a bachelor's degree (B.A.) in Honors Asian Studies from the University of Texas at Austin where he was named Outstanding Male Student of the Year in 1994. He holds a master's degree (M.L.A) in interdisciplinary studies from Southern Methodist University, and a second master's degree from Harvard University in Education Administration, Planning, and Social Policy (M.Ed.).
